Muay Thai in East Singapore: Bedok, Siglap & Bayshore Training Options

Living in east Singapore means most Muay Thai gyms are a 20+ minute commute. Khao Noi Gym is the exception. Here's why east-side residents are training in Kallang.

8 June 2026

If you live in Bedok, Siglap, Bayshore, or further out toward Tampines, the typical Muay Thai conversation goes: "I'd love to train, but every gym is 30 minutes away by the time I park." That's true for most gyms in Singapore. Khao Noi Gym is the exception โ€” it's on the west edge of east Singapore, accessible from the ECP without going through town.

Why east-side residents have it harder than they think

The combat sports cluster in Singapore is heavily centred around Kallang and the CBD. From Bedok or Bayshore, you've either got:

  • A 25-30 minute drive into town via the ECP, then parking battles
  • A 40-minute MRT journey with at least one transfer
  • A "local" option that's a fitness studio doing kickboxing, not authentic Muay Thai
Most east-side residents end up just not training. The friction quietly wins.

Why KNG works for east-side commutes

Khao Noi Gym is at 50 Jalan Benaan Kapal โ€” just past Tanjong Rhu on the way into Kallang. From east Singapore, you don't have to go all the way into town. The ECP drops you off at the Tanjong Rhu / Old Airport Road exit, then it's a 2-minute drive to KNG.

Drive times from key east-side addresses:

  • Bayshore Park / Bedok South: 15-18 min
  • Bedok Reservoir: 15-20 min
  • Siglap / Frankel Avenue: 12-15 min
  • Marine Parade / Joo Chiat (West side of east): 8-12 min
  • Tampines (far east): 22-28 min depending on traffic
For Tampines or Pasir Ris residents, KNG isn't your closest gym in absolute terms โ€” but it might still be the closest gym that teaches authentic Muay Thai with coach-led every session.

What east-side residents value in a gym

We've noticed our east-side members all care about the same three things:

1. Saturday matters more than weeknights. Long workdays plus a longer commute home means weeknight classes get cancelled often. Saturday classes (11 AM kids, 12 PM and 1:30 PM adults) are the anchor of the week.

2. The drive needs to be predictable. East Coast Parkway is the most predictable commute in Singapore โ€” it's wide, well-maintained, and rarely has severe congestion outside rush hour. KNG members who drive in regularly tell us the consistency of the trip is what makes it sustainable.

3. Parking can't be a hassle. Town gyms with paid parking that fills up by 5:30 PM are unworkable. KNG has free street parking right outside, available all day.

The Saturday family pattern

For east-side parents with kids, the typical KNG week looks like:

  • 9:00 AM โ€” drive over from Bedok / Siglap / Bayshore (allow 20 min for traffic)
  • 11:00 AM โ€” kid's Muay Thai class (60 min)
  • 12:00 PM โ€” parent's group class (90 min)
  • 1:30 PM โ€” quick lunch nearby (Kallang Wave Mall or back home)
  • 3:00 PM โ€” back home before mid-afternoon nap
It's a half-day routine that works for a lot of east-side families.

Beyond group classes

If group classes are tough to schedule, two alternatives:

Private lessons โ€” by appointment, scheduled around your week. Often more efficient for east-side residents because you can pick a 9 AM slot before traffic builds.

Housecall private lessons โ€” we deliver a coach to your condo gym or home anywhere from Bayshore to Siglap. The coach brings pads, gloves, and shins. You provide the space. Same authentic training, your location.

FAQs

What's the fastest way to get from Bedok to Khao Noi Gym?

The East Coast Parkway (ECP), exiting at Tanjong Rhu / Mountbatten. 15-18 minutes outside peak hours. Avoid Bedok Road during morning rush.

Are there any other authentic Muay Thai gyms in east Singapore?

The east side is light on dedicated Muay Thai gyms. Most "combat sports" facilities in Bedok and Tampines lean toward boxing fitness or general MMA. For traditional Muay Thai with coach-led every session, Kallang is your nearest cluster.

Can my Bedok-resident kid take the Kids Muay Thai class?

Yes. Many of our kids class regulars come from east Singapore. Saturday 11 AM, ages 5-15.

Do you offer housecall lessons in Bedok or Bayshore?

Yes โ€” we deliver private 1-on-1 Muay Thai sessions across east Singapore. WhatsApp +65 8815 3647 to arrange.

Is street parking really available outside the gym?

Yes, on Jalan Benaan Kapal. Most members park within 50 metres of the door. Worst case, walk 2-3 minutes from a slightly further spot.
